So let’s get started.

First things first, what all do you need?

  1. A Human Friend (recommended)
  2. Three rolls of Duct Tape (Whichever color(s) you prefer)
  3. A tight fitted top that you don’t care for anymore
  4. Scissors
  5. A punch or needle (basically, something to poke holes with)
  6. Lace/Rope/Strong thread
  7. Eyelets (recommended)

You probably have scissors and a punch.

Once you have everything in front of you, follow the below steps.

How to Make a Duct Tape Corset

Step 1:

Decide who will be the model and who the maker. For the sake of this little tutorial, we’ll assume you are the model, so put on that tank top and say goodbye – It will serve you well, if it hasn’t already (and remember to wear a bra during this – you needn’t say goodbye to this one just yet if you’re careful).

Now look at yourself in the mirror, and fold any extra cloth you see inwards. You need a smooth outer surface to avoid wrinkles.

Once you are done, get the duct tape ready.

Step 2:

Ask your friend to wrap the duct tape around your body, beginning with the back. However, if you are doing it alone, more power to you.

This step is easy so long as you are careful. You can wrap the tape in horizontal stripes, but make sure to wrap it in both directions.

Doing it only one way can make for a very uncomfortable fit as it pulls the cloth in one direction.

Continue along the front, and avoid wrinkles as best you can.

The duct tape should be wrapped around tightly, but not to the extent that you feel suffocated!

Step 3:

Once you are done, you will have the first layer of your corset! Now you can take a marker and mark a straight line along the front if you’re doing it alone.

However, if you have a friend there, you have the option of having a front opening or a back opening corset.

After you mark the line, carefully cut along it – but don’t cut the bra, or yourself!

Now lay the body of the corset in front of you – no, you aren’t done yet.

Step 4:

Got more of that duct tape ready?

It’s best to give the corset another two or three layers to make it sturdier.

Horizontal lines will also help smooth out those inevitable wrinkles. Following this, it’s time to give it some finishing touches.

You need to fold the tape in half to cover the edges. Done already?

Now it’s time to get creative!

Step 5:

You can make various designs and style the corset however you like.

If you have colorful rolls of duct tape, don’t be afraid to go a little crazy (just not too much)!

You have the option to make stripes, squares, and pretty much anything you like, just so long as it’s doable.

Step 6:

Now that you have your DIY fancy corset all laid out looking gorgeous, it’s time to get the lacing done.

Pick up that needle or punch and make some holes an inch from both the open sides.

Ensure that these are evenly spaced, because the lace will be coming through there.

Here, you can use those eyelets that you got (if you listened to our recommendation), to make sure these holes don’t succumb to wear.

Step 7:

Lace up this beauty, and stare at yourself in the mirror for a bit. Well, don’t you look gorgeous!

Final Thoughts

This wonderful corset takes less than an hour to make, and you have to admit, the end result is pretty awesome as well.

So if you are among those people who doesn’t want to break their bank this Halloween – you don’t have to.

With this little hack, you can save yourself some money and time.

After all, it takes hours to pick out the perfect Halloween costume, but now, you can just select an outfit to match the corset, and you will be good to go!
